FON: (serial number) 7076-78 This banjo is a powerful, post war beast of a Gibson banjo. The original neck is being used for a special project, and the all-original pot has a Dotson 75 flathead tone ring installed. Someone installed top binding on the resonator long before we acquired the banjo. The rim had already been cut and a pot-metal, Japanese tone ring installed. We removed the pot metal ring and installed our ring with some alterations to fit a pre-war stye, long-skirt tone ring and installed one of our older Dotson reproduction, Reno-Crowe mahogany necks on it, and WOW!
This banjo features new Gotoh machines, an unplated Dotson 75 tone ring, 26-3/8″ pre war scale length Indian rosewood fingerboard, newer Prucha “Presto” tailpiece, Dotson old-wood bridge, full complement of spikes and a hard-shell case.
Listen for yourself by watching the video posted below these pictures. This will make someone a great, post-war banjo from the 1950s. I’d play it all day long!
